I'm collecting dropped feathers for an art project that I've been thinking about forever. I've found many, many gull feathers as one is apt to do when residing by the sea, as well as a few pretty dappled brown and black ones (I'm ashamed to say I don't know which bird they come from).
However, what I'd adore are some inky black crow feather, but I never seem to stumble across any. I wonder why that is?
My romantic sensibilities insist it's because the crow jealously guards his handsome plumage and, should he drop a single quill, picks it up and takes it home to the twisted oak tree for his wife to sew back into place.
So, if you happen upon a single black feather, think of me!
